Message from the Principal
Sean Bevan

Dear ARHS families,

I hope that your summer is going well and that you’ve been able to rest and recharge and enjoy time with your loved ones.

Since school wrapped up in June, I have been working with my team to prepare for the 2024-2025 school year. As much as I enjoy the summer, I do look forward to the excitement of a new school year each August. I am especially excited to welcome a new member to my administrative team: Mr. Matt Gikind will be working as the assistant principal assigned to those students in the 10th and 12th grades.

If you have a question or concern that could use the assistance of an administrator throughout the year, please contact the administrator assigned to your child (though their responses over the summer may be delayed):

Additionally, I am writing to share the following helpful information about the reopening of school:

  • First day of school: Students’ first day of school is Thursday, August 29. The school day begins at 8:00 am and ends at 2:30 pm. The schedule for the day is here. For the full-year District calendar, click here.

  • Start time and bell schedule: The bell schedule, which is unchanged from last year, is here; to see the calendar of bell schedule ‘days’, click here.

  • Student schedules: Student schedules will be published on PowerSchool at the end of the week of August 19. When they are available, I will send out an email with information about how you may log on to see teachers’ names, room numbers, etc.

  • Summer Reading: Although participation is not required, we are encouraging members of the Algonquin community to read at least one book of their choice over the course of the summer. Suggestions from students, teachers, and community members will be shared on the Library’s Canvas page and Instagram (@arhslibrary).

  • School supplies: Each summer, we receive inquiries from parents about what school supplies they need to purchase in advance of the first day of classes. Unfortunately, it's impossible to create a list that would cover all students in all classes. Instead, we encourage students to ask their teachers for a supplies list during the first days of class. Most teachers include this information on their class expectations sheet, or they post it to Canvas. In most cases, each student would need a 3-ring binder to stay organized. Beyond that, their teachers' preferences will vary.

  • Chromebook Distribution:

    • Students in grade 9 will be receiving their devices during Freshman Orientation, which is on August 27th from 9:00-11:00 AM. If your student is unable to attend orientation, they will be able to pick their device up at the library on the first day of school.

    • Students in grade 10 who do not have a school-issued Chromebook may pick up their device at the library on the first day of school.

    • For those students in grades 11 or 12 who need a long-term loaner for the school year, please complete and submit this form. Registered students will be able to pick up their devices at the library on the first day of school. If you have any questions, please email arhstechsupport@nsboro.k12.ma.us.

  • Fall Athletics registration now open: Registration for Fall athletics opens on Monday. The link is here. The deadline for registering to play a fall sport is noon on August 13. Learn more here

  • Summer Hours: The ARHS Main Office is open Monday through Friday from 9:00 am -1:00 pm all summer. However, we are very lightly staffed, and there may be unusual circumstances wherein we are closed due to an unforeseen issue, like an illness. So, it is a good idea to call ahead to be sure your needs can be met: (508) 351-7010.

I look forward to seeing you all soon. Enjoy the rest of the summer!

Sincerely,

Sean Bevan

Summer Reading Assignments
Julie Marshall

Summer Reading is a yearly tradition at Algonquin, and this year Summer Reading will be a collaborative effort between the English Department, the Library, and various student groups. The intention behind this move is to shift summer reading from being a requirement for a course, which can seem weighty, to an activity that will hopefully encourage curiosity, spark joy, and be a source of relaxation. Although participation is not required, we are encouraging members of the Algonquin community to read at least one book of their choice over the course of the summer.

Suggestions from students, teachers, and community members will be shared on the Library’s Canvas page and Instagram – please check often for updates!
